Grant Overview

The Maryland Momentum CSP grant represents $28.7 million in funds available to help Maryland expand opportunities for students to attend excellent public charter schools that meet and exceed state academic standards. Maryland’s project has the following main objectives:

  • Increase the number of public charter school seats PreK-12th grade in Maryland by 4,200 students.

  • Enhance sector and authorizer knowledge and capacity to sustain efforts in improving quality.

In carrying out these objectives, the MMP provides subgrants to qualified charter school developers and operators through a competitive grant process. MAPCS plans to award CSP subgrants to charter school developers in Maryland to carry out one of the following activities in the state of Maryland:

  • Open and prepare for the operation of new charter schools;

  • Open and prepare for the operation of replicated high-quality charter schools; or

  • Expand high-quality charter schools.
