Maryland Momentum Charter Schools Program Grant
About the Grant
On September 27, 2023, the Maryland Alliance of Public Charter Schools (MAPCS) was awarded a $28.7-million, 5-year Charter Schools Program (CSP) grant to address the growing demand for high-quality public charter schools in Maryland by delivering 4,200 new seats statewide. The CSP is a competitive, national grant program eligible to state entities, including nonprofit charter school associations. The program provides eligible charter school applicants subgrants to open and prepare for the operation of new public charter schools; replication and expansion of high-quality charter schools; conversion of a traditional public school to a charter school; and the expansion or addition of Prekindergarten to existing charter schools. The newly awarded CSP grant will enable MAPCS to pass through 90% of the Federal funds to eligible charter school awardees. The remaining 10 percent of grant money will go to technical assistance programming and the cost of administering the grant.
